T.O.R.C.H. Student Debt is a student led project striving to expose NYU’s issues with student debt, and bring light to existing myths and facts surrounding the financial status of NYU students.

Financial issues are widespread amongst NYU students, especially due to NYU’s exorbitant tuition costs that are barely subsidized by financial aid. NYU students have $11K more student debt than the national average post-grad. In spite of this, NYU students are widely assumed as all “rich”.

T.O.R.C.H. is here to reveal that not only is the myth that NYU students are rich a pile of horseshit, but also that NYU students have been left to dry, turning to homelessness and prostitution due to a lack of funds.

T.O.R.C.H. condemns the status quo. NYU students cannot and should not continue to struggle for their educations, be that physically or financially. NYU’s board cannot and should not continue to exploit the people it claims to serve, in the name of their personal financial gain. The capitalist system cannot and should not continue to flourish unhindered simply because it serves the interests of the few in power.
